There is a restaurant close to my office that I am totally intrigued by. It’s brand new and called The Purple Pig. They tout their “Cheese, Wine, and Swine.” Hmm, sounds scary right off the bat and their photos at the front of the restaurant of all that meaty porkiness, and swiney stuff is a bit intimidating. I have been not so sure. BUT then, I saw Facebook’s We Eat Chicago post this and it makes me want to go. A lot.
We Eat Chicago: Braised pork shoulder with mashed potatoes at The Purple Pig (500 N. Michigan Ave.; 312-464-1744), $9. Large chunks of tender, fatty pork resting in buttery, smooth whipped potato. LOVED IT.
We Eat Chicago: Brussels sprouts at The Purple Pig (500 N. Michigan Ave.; 312-464-1744), $5. Now open for lunch, this rustic boîte on Michigan Avenue seems primed to serve the ladies-out-shopping bunch: wines by the glass and enticing, shareable dishes all over the menu. The lemony fried brussels sprout leaves were a genius alternative to a salad, and the roasted beets with whipped goat cheese and pistachio vinaigrette (in the background; $4) were nice, too. LIKED IT.
